Have growth factors delivered on the promise of enhancing periodontal regeneration

Since 30 years ago when EMD was put on the market for promoting periodontal regeneration, several new growth factors have emerged such as hyaluronic acid, FGF-2 or rh-PDGF. However, the issues are have these materials enhanced the clinical outcomes above what was achieved in previous times, has the new attachment been more stable are there less complications and do they perform better when mixed with various biomaterials. This lecture will go from animal and in vitro data to human histological and clinical results and try to give answers to the above raised questions showing long-term results of initially periodontally severely compromised teeth.
