Surgical strategies for aesthetic rehabilitations
Aesthetic rehabilitation on teeth and/or implants requires a biologically and prosthetically driven approach. As periodontists, our first responsibility is to assess prognosis and define the most appropriate surgical strategy. Digital diagnostic tools—such as 3D imaging, intraoral scanning, and computer-assisted aesthetic planning—play an essential role in evaluating feasibility and predicting outcomes. When a tooth can be predictably maintained, comprehensive periodontal management, including targeted surgical techniques, may optimize aesthetic results. Conversely, when replacement is indicated, implant site development, soft-tissue management, and carefully planned timing protocols become critical to achieving a harmonious and stable outcome. Throughout all phases, a balanced consideration of biological limitations, patient expectations, and cost–benefit factors guide clinical decision-making. This integrated approach supports predictable, long-term aesthetic outcomes in daily practice.
Professor dr. France Lambert graduated in Dentistry from the University of Liège, Belgium, in 2002 and completed her postgraduate training in Periodontology in 2005. She later received an ITI Scholarship for advanced training in Implantology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA, and obtained her PhD in 2011 with research focused on regenerative biomaterials.
She is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Periodontology, Oro-dental Surgery and Implant Surgery at the University of Liège, where she also directs the EFP-accredited postgraduate program in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Her clinical work is dedicated to periodontology and implantology, while her research focuses on implant dentistry, tissue regeneration, and regenerative biomaterials.
Prof. Lambert lectures internationally, has authored numerous scientific publications, and holds several leadership roles within international organizations, including the ITI and the European Federation of Periodontology.
