Interdisciplinary approach in severe periodontitis patient

Dr. Mauro Merli earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna in 1986, and in 1989 in Odontostomatology. Active member of the Italian Society of Periodontology and of The Italian Society of Prosthetic Dentistry and Oral Rehabilitation, he is author of the multimedial books "Implant Therapy: The Integrated Treatment Plan" and "Prosthetics in Implant Therapy" by Quintessence. He is an Editorial Consultant for the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Merli is Professor of Periodontology (University Politecnica of Marche), President of the Clinica Merli and Scientific Director of Accademia Dentofacciale Merli.

To achieve a thorough assessment of the challenges and solutions in Implant, Prosthetic and Orthodontic Therapy, the diagnostic and therapeutic process must be reconsidered and developed into an integrated treatment plan with an interaction between the various disciplines (periodontist, orthodontist, prosthetist). The clinical-scientific community has begun to attribute importance to the aesthetic assessment of the face, leading to the smile and then intraoral evaluation. This lecture will illustrate the management and treatment of complex clinical cases through an interdisciplinary approach in severe periodontitis patient and masticatory disfunction, integrating prosthetic and orthodontic solutions that best serve the patients’ requests.
